I want to be Jack Sparrow.

He’s charming, witty, and weird, has terrific balance and really knows how to get you going. But no, those are not reasons why. It isn’t his looks or his drunken swagger or that comedic way in which he speaks. You should know that he’s really a bit more than all that, almost Frostian in nature; he is seemingly simple with underlying complexity.

It’s really the fact that he just gets it. I mean, how else could one be so crafty? You’ve got to have an extensive knowledge of something before you can manipulate it in order to achieve the desired result. It’s his understanding of human nature, the fact that everyone, himself included, is selfish.

The only rules that really matter are these: what a man can do, and what a man can’t do.

Which is why piracy isn’t the absolute worst thing in the world. Take what you can, give nothing back. Aye? Given the chance, anyone would do what serves his or her best interest. It’s an axiom. It’s not something one should try to fight or change, nor is it something one should worry about it. He was viciously mutinied upon, his ship was stolen, and at first, there was really nothing he could do about it. But eventually, he got it back and exacted his revenge. He’s so interesting to me because he does what I wish I could do. He is plagued by neither sorrow nor anger. He truly understands that fairness does not exist, and there are far more important things in life.
